History / Bio:
Erik Lensherr was born in Germany to parents Jakob and Anne. Their family was a middle-class Jewish family and proud Germans. It was hard for them, during the Nazi rise to power. Erik can still remember scrimping and saving, rationing what they had to make it last as long as they could. It wasn’t long before, in the early 1930s, they escaped to Poland. Life was better for a little while; there wasn't as much discrimination, but Erik knew they were still hard-pressed to make ends meet, even if his parents tried to keep that from their children. But the escape was temporary; the family was captured when the Nazis invaded and they were sent to the Warsaw Ghetto.
The whole family stayed in the Ghetto for a little while, until Erik's father formulated a plan for them to escape. Unfortunately, they were caught in their attempt to get away. Because they were old enough to be held accountable, Erik’s parents and sister were all executed. The surviving member of the family, though little more than a boy, was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. His powers had manifested before he had even become a teenager, which perhaps contributed to the fact that he survived to be sent to Auschwitz. He was tattooed with a number, the way that all the Jews were, and set to work, disposing of those who were sent to the gas chambers.
Despite the fact that his powers had manifested at a rather young age, Erik didn’t really know what had happened and made no attempt to truly control his powers; he didn’t know what they were, after all.
While he was in the concentration camps, he was reunited with a young Roma woman he had known in his childhood, a girl called Magda. It was impossible for them to truly spend much time together in the camps, but it wasn’t long before Auschwitz was liberated.
As soon as the camps were liberated and World War Two ended, Erik and Magda decided to get married. They moved to Austria to start their life together. It was only for a few months, however, and their happy life was utterly destroyed.
Erik had been working as a carpenter so that he could support himself and his young wife, and one night, he was attacked. He acted on instinct and used his mutant powers to defend himself. The resulting burst of power killed those who had attacked him.
When he returned home, he discovered that the little house he shared with Magda was burning and he could do nothing to stop it. Erik thought that his wife (who had been pregnant at the time) had perished in the fire and turned his grief and rage upon the mob that had started the fire to drive away the mutant in their midst.
From that day onward, he did all that he could to understand and learn to control his mutant ability. Erik travelled far and wide, studying everything that he could about mutation in general, and his own in particular. He met and befriended a young Professor Charles Xavier, though the two had a falling-out that led to Erik’s return to Austria.
It was while he was nearer to his homeland that he decided that he was going to focus on mutant rights. He's been working for mutant equality, and Erik (who had taken to calling himself Magneto) came to believe that they would have to take a much harsher stance with humans, to make them see that mutants are, in fact, superior and deserve at least the same rights as homo sapiens.
And now, it's time to take a firmer stance.

At first glance, there wasn’t really anything to distinguish the older gentleman from any other man. He sat at the table in his current safe house, a book open on the surface in front of him, one hand resting by the pages, the other in the air, a small metal ball moving in lazy circles above his open palm. But then, this was no ordinary man. He was the mutant named Erik Lensherr, more commonly known as Magneto.
The man gazed down at the tattoo on his arm, a troubled frown on his face. Those who said that they should just live in peace with the humans, that they could work things out if only they tried…, they hadn’t been through the same things he had. He’d already lived through the genocide of his people; he wasn’t about to let it happen again. They had already been experimented on, tortured, and when he had been in the camps, he had vowed that this sort of thing would never happen again, not if he could do anything to stop it.
That had been during the Holocaust, when the Jews had been the target. As a people, they didn’t have powers. He shuddered to think what sorts of experiments might have been done on any mutants the Nazis had managed to get their hands on.
No, they couldn’t afford to simply live in peace. There was far too much at stake. With all of the emerging new powers, the mutants had to be even more vigilant. There was a war brewing, and Erik Lensherr would make sure that the mutants came out on top.

Strengths / Abilities / Powers:
- Mutant power:
- Magnetokinesis: As his name implies, Magneto is able to control metal and all forms of magnetism. He is able to access and manipulate all sorts of electromagnetic fields, including that of the planet itself, though larger feats require a greater effort. Because of the great deal of control he has worked to obtain over his powers, he can use his magnetic powers more than one way at the same time. For example, he can hold himself aloft utilizing his own eletro-magnetic energy as it interacts with that of the planet’s even as he assembles complicated machinery simultaneously.
- Magnetic Force-Fields: Because he’s able to manipulate electromagnetic energy, this enables him to surround himself (and other objects, should he choose to) in a force-field of magnetic energy. While it is possible to wear down his force-fields, it takes a great deal of force and effort, though if his attention is divided enough, they can be weakened. He is also able to use his force fields to send an electromagnetic pulse, which can help him short out technology, injure an adversary, etc.
- Magnetic Armour: Magneto created a special sort of magnetic armour that helps to protect him from various and numerous attacks. It is made of various lightweight, highly durable metallic alloys that he can manipulate to make as hard as adamantium.
- Flight: His mutant ability allows him to move along and through magnetic fields in his surrounding areas, which enables him to fly. He can fly over quite a distance at speed, depending upon how quickly he needs to get somewhere.
- Geomagnetic Link: Magneto is connected to the Earth's magnetic field. He can tune into the field to find out what is happening to the planet. This connection also allows him to be able to turn off gravity in a limited space around himself by reversing the polarity of the earth's own magnetic field.
- Electromagnetism: Erik is capable of manipulating energy within the electromagnetic spectrum. For example, if he takes the time to concentrate, he can see the world around him in magnetic and electrical auras. He is also able to project his own electromagnetic energy, as well.
- Charismatic: Erik’s strength of character and the force of his personality inspires others to trust him and to follow him. His conviction in the right of his cause helps greatly in this matter, as well. He’s very well-spoken and able to show people that he’s in the right by talking to them, by using his conviction and well-thought out arguments to show them he’s right.
- Genius level intellect: Magneto possesses a genius-level intellect that further elevates him from the ranks of homo sapiens. Additionally, because of his experience over the years, Erik is able to use that to his advantage, and some would call him wise. He tries to learn from his mistakes, tries to apply good judgement to his decisions.
- Noble: For all that his methods might not be the best, Erik’s intentions are noble. He wants mutants to be able to live in peace, without fear of persecution.
- Mental resistance: Throughout the years, Erik has trained himself to have a certain level of mental resistance to telepaths, even without the helmet he so often wears.
- Master combatant: Erik has been waging one war or another almost all of his life, which means he knows many different tactics, when it comes down to it. He has been on the front-lines in active combat, as well as working in a more “behind the scenes” capacity.
- Master tactician and strategist: In addition to being a master combatant, Erik is adept at coming up with tactics and strategies for battle. If something goes wrong, he is able to assess the situation and regroup as needed.
- Multilingual: Erik is fluent in English, German, Polish, Yiddish, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Hebrew, and Arabic.
Weaknesses:
- Bigoted: Even for all his potentially noble pursuits, Erik is a bit of a bigot. He views mutants as superior, which causes him to underestimate regular humans.
- Arrogant: He has a very high opinion of himself, partly because he knows his own strengths. He knows that he’s better than most other people, and it can absolutely show in how he carries himself.
- Family: Erik cares very deeply for his family. His parents and sister were literally torn away from him in the Holocaust, and he has learned to hang on very dearly to those he cares about. Which makes it relatively easy for people to use his family or those he has taken to calling his own against him. For example, he cares deeply about some of the young mutants that have joined his cause, and he will do what he can to protect them.
- Temper: This mutant very much does have a temper. Most of the time, it’s a slow-burning, long-fused temper, but when it flares, watch out. When he gets angry, it can be catastrophic; he has occasionally leveled entire buildings.
- PTSD: Erik very definitely suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He’s a survivor of the Holocaust, and he occasionally still has nightmares about it. One thing that is almost guaranteed to set him off are small, enclosed spaces. He also doesn't like being around large crowds of people in uniform.
- Electromagnetism: Erik is able to manipulate and utilize the field of electromagnetism, but it is extremely tiring for him to do so. So much that he is much more likely to let his guard down if he's been using electromagnetism very much at all.
- Flight: While he is able to fly, he can only fly so high. He is still only human, even if he is homo superior. Magneto cannot fly as high as Iron Man can, for example, unless he has a force-field around him keeping in his oxygen. Even then, it's extremely risky because if he breaks his concentration, he could easily die.
