Character Application:
Name: Pietro Maximoff
Alias: Quicksilver
Age: Mid Twenties
Species: Mutant
Alignment: Neutral
Face Claim: Evan Peters
History / Bio:
Pietro and his twin sister Wanda were orphaned at birth at Wundagore Hospital in Romania. Wanda was born first, then silver-haired Pietro. The two were adopted by an American couple who could not have children of their own. Pietro lived the stereotypical suburban childhood until adolescence when he both began to experience manifestations of his mutant powers.
Pietro had always loved to run. He played soccer in grade school but really started to shine when he joined Track. He won medal after medal and was on his way to going to the summer Olympics. In the national track meet, Pietro stood at the starting line, envisioning himself taking the win with his family in the stand, cheering him on. The race began and suddenly Pietro was standing on the other side of the finish line. Confused and dizzy, Pietro slumped to his knees as the crowd worked into an uproar. At first, based on the video footage, the judges thought Pietro had teleported to the end of the race. When it was determined that Pietro could travel at super-speed, he was stripped of all his past medals and banned from any future competitions. His family attempted to sue the board, but ended up taking a small settlement out of court. This was one of many mutant-related incidents around the world that was stirring up fear and hostility at the time. The rest of the world was just starting to learn about Mutants and what they were capable of.
Pietro would always hold a bitterness over this. He would never compete in the Olympics-- never prove to the world that he was the fastest thing on two feet. Instead he had to hide it and do the best he could to keep it a secret. The family moved across the country and started over. Pietro had better success at fitting in with the Normals than his sister, given her unstable powers, but he was (and still is) fiercely loyal to her. He got in a lot of fights at school protecting her from bullies.
After graduating, Pietro spent a few years traveling the world. He went everywhere. With his gift, there were literally no restrictions to where he could go and no travel time to get there. He ran up to the top of Mt. Everest without stopping. He bummed around the beaches of Australia. He spent a few days drifting through Tokyo. He saw all the old stuff, all the famous stuff, and ate a ton of food. Out of all his travels, however, there was one place he knew he had to go to before he returned to the states. Pietro visited the hospital where he and Wanda were born in Romania. It had long since been shut down, but he still spent a few days trying to dig through old records. He succeeded in finding a birth certificate which listed a woman named Magda as his birth mother. He found the place his mother was buried and visited the grave, but learned nothing about his father.
Pietro returned to the states, where he is currently trying to decide what to do with himself. Getting a day to day job seems a little ridiculous, all things considered. Also there is a war going on, even if no one is going to come out and say it. Mutants vs mutants, mutants vs normals, superheroes vs the government... maybe its time Pietro chose a side.
Strengths / Abilities / Powers:
Weaknesses:
Miscellaneous: Pietro likes to wear a pair of aviator goggles when running. His father is Magneto, but he does not know this.
Sample:
"English? Speak English?" God I sound like an asshole. Pietro walked the street, asking anyone he passed the same question. He'd brought along a Romanian/English Dictionary, but his pronunciation had been pure shit. Now he was looking for anybody who would give him the time of day. "English?"
Finally Pietro found a teenage boy loafing around outside a little shop. He bargained with the kid for a while and finally got him down to two packs of cigarettes and fifty American dollars for two hours of his time "reading paperwork." Pietro stressed this over and over-- "Reading only!" --because there was no way this didn't look bad.
Pietro led the boy, whose name was Luca, back down the street to the City Building. He'd tracked the hospital paperwork here, only to realize that it was all in a language he could never hope to read. Now he hoped Luca could help him find what he was looking for. Together, the two of them dug through old dusty boxes until they located the one labeled with the year of Pietro's birth. From there, they had to locate all the certificates with Pietro's birth date.
There were eight of them. And only two did not have a father listed: Pietro and Wanda. Pietro asked Luca to read the faded papers slowly, pointing at each word, and listened intently. "What does this word mean?" He pointed to the word after his first name. Luca hitched a shoulder. No last name. Pietro frowned and nodded for him to go on. The space under Mother's name listed "Magda No Last Name." Pietro swallowed hard, feeling a lump raising in his throat. Magda. His mother's name was Magda. Mothers Place of Birth was empty. Mothers Age was empty. Everything regarding his father was a blank space.
Pietro tucked his and Wanda's birth certificates away in his back pack. If Luca saw, he didn't seem to care. "One more thing and I'll throw in another pack of smokes." Luca agreed and the two of them went back to the boxes, attempting to find Magda's death records. They were in another part of the storage room, inside another dusty box. Deaths from the year he was born. Once they found it, Pietro wasn't surprised to see it had next to no helpful information. Her height and weight when she died due to "complications during child birth." Magda No Last Name.
Pietro paid off Luca and shook his hand before booking it to the nearest grave yard. He had to search four of them before he found her. A pitiful little plot where her ashes were entombed. Pietro sat down before it, frowning at the stone, trying to feel something. What had she been like? Had she wanted kids? If she had lived, would she have kept them? Was she a mutant too? And why was she alone that day, without anyone to hold her hand?
Pietro sat there a long time. When the sun finally set, he pushed himself to his feet and darted through the night. Five seconds later, he was crossing the boarder out of Romania.

Strengths / Abilities / Powers:
- Super-Speed: The limit of Pietro's gift is unknown, though he was able to travel half the world's distance in 92 seconds. He is capable of traveling faster than the speed of sound. This ability allows him to do such things as dodge machine gun fire, create gusts of wind strong enough to knock a grown man off his feet, and run over water and up walls.
- Speed Physiology: Pietro's body is made to withstand the physics behind his powers, including:
- Superhuman Reflexes/agility:His increased speed has given him a nearly nonexistent reaction time. He is able to respond to danger mentally and physically before everyone else even knows whats happening (for example, moving a bullet in another direction before others even register its been fired).
- Accelerated Metabolism: Pietro's metabolism is 15x that of a normal human. This allows him to heal faster than average. Because of this he is always hungry.
- Superhuman Strength: Pietro is super strong, especially in his legs, which can press 1 ton. He is strong enough to carry a person with him while he travels and can do so without harming them.
- Extreme Force Generalization: Pietro uses his own momentum to increase the force of his attacks. With his speed behind him, Pietro's punches and attacks can propel people several feet.
- Inhuman Reaction Time: He doesn't just move fast, he thinks fast. His brain can compensate for the speed at which he is moving, allowing him to perceive the world around him and respond to it. At super speed, it is almost as if Pietro can step out of time; all those around him appear to freeze in place while he moves around them. He can use this aspect of his powers to do anything from change the path of a fired bullet to play pranks... whatever is necessary at the time. This quick intellect also makes it tricky for Telepaths to use their powers on him.
- Molecular Acceleration/Destabilization: Pietro has not gone very far in exploring this aspect of his powers. He is, in essence, able to vibrate his molecular structure at high speeds-- which causes anything he touches to fall apart or explode. He'd rather leave the explosions to his sister and just keep running.
Weaknesses:
- Impatient: For Pietro, real life is like being stuck in line at the DMV. Everyone is SLOW. Everyone is in his way. He sees the world in slow motion anytime he uses his powers. Being forced to wait or do something the 'long' way makes him irritable.
- Speed Mentality: Pietro's personality is directly impacted by his powers. He can be described as cocky, arrogant, impatient, tenacious, and quick-tempered, which sometimes makes it difficult for him to get along with others. Due to his impulsive nature, he seldom takes the time to plan something out. He would rather leave that to someone else. In this sense, he is a follower (though he would only follow someone he respects). Pietro believes there is nothing he cannot overcome with his powers, and so when things don't go as planned he takes it hard, becoming angry and sometimes irrational. He thrives on instant gratification, winning, and showing off.
- Clothes: Pietro's body is uniquely evolved for speed but the wear and tear on his clothes is something completely different. He is constantly replacing shoes and pants. With all the geniuses running around, maybe someone could make him some special clothes that don't fall apart after a few days?
- Wanda Maximoff: Pietro is unflinchingly loyal to his sister. He will stand by her no matter what and he would do anything for her. He can be a real asshole at times, but he has a soft spot for Wanda. If anyone tried to hurt her they would have an enemy for life in Pietro Maximoff.
- Prone to depression: Pietro has struggled with depression his entire life. The worst episode was when he was disqualified from the Olympics because of his powers. These days his depression manifests itself through his complete lack of drive or purpose. He aspires to be nothing. He has no motivation. To Pietro, the only special thing about himself is his powers, and those are what have made him an outcast to the rest of the world. The only thing he was ever good at is running: a gift that he cannot find an outlet for. He feels he will never be anybody worth anything, and so has ceased trying.
Miscellaneous: Pietro likes to wear a pair of aviator goggles when running. His father is Magneto, but he does not know this.
